I was looking at buying a refurbished T41 and then came across a T61 locally for a little more money and just wondering if it's worth the difference.
T41
1.7GHz
80GB 7200 RPM
1GB RAM
SXGA
No warranty
~$500
T60
T2500 2GHz
80GB 5400 RPM
1GB RAM
14.1in 1400x1050 LCD
Warranty until 05-2010
~$700
Everything else being equal, does either strike you as a better buy?

T61, w/o a warranty the T41 might have the motherboard cold soldering problem and instantly be an expensive paperweight.

I'd go for the T60 with the warranty for the peace of mind. That price with that warranty seems like a very good deal.

T60 is much faster with the Core Duo 2GHz vs a Pentium M! Plus the warranty is definetely worse the $200 difference!

I would suggest you to take the T60 without hesitation.
An outdated machine such as T41 shouldn't be sold for more than $400, however $700 is an excellent price for a T60. After comparing a T60p to my T43, the former runs cooler, quieter and much faster.
I was very surprised because I had heard the quality has decreased on ThinkPad lines since Lenovo's takeover. That's not true! The looking of T4 series is probably the only thing I'm missing.

Well, I think I'll pick up the T60. I think with the warranty it probably makes more sense. Thanks, guys!

well, T60 would be the right choice here since it is covered by warranty
