vista t61 won't burn CDs or DVDs

#1 Post by tlc » Fri Nov 16, 2007 5:45 pm

(t61, 7658-CTO, Vista, multiburner)

I've tried different media, different programs (yes, including nero), CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. All burning fails.

I have the latest bios, all lenovo and windows updates.

Nero just says "write error". Some of the Windows tools thinks that DVD burn complete OK, but nothing actually burns -- when I reload, it's recognized as blank.

I had changed the SATA mode to "compatibility" for Linux (on another partition). I just changed it back to "AHCI" and still no luck. I'm having trouble burning with linux too.

What should I try next?

Thanks,
tlc

In view of the fact that the drive fails in 2 OS's I would hazard a guess that the burner is bad and that your next move should be to call Lenovo support and have them send you a replacement.

1. Run PC Doctor test.

2. Look at the following threads for any possible solution:

DVD Problems.

dvd writer problem.

3. If no luck then call IBM Support Center.

With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
