Experience with my new t61p

I have been playing with my new toy for over a week now and have some comments/questions for the community.

- 15.4 wide screen was lacking brightness, but this issue can be remedied by installing drivers from nvidia.com
- I am using a dual monitor setup, using VGA cable and a Dell lcd monitor. I am noticing annoying screen flickering on both displays, which tends to happen when I open a video file or a website with lots of graphics. Looks like flickering goes away when I disconnect the external monitor, but not entirely sure (will play with this). Anyone have experienced this issue? Could it be driver related because I am not using lenovo nvidia drivers?
- I like to play FPS games once in a while, so I got COD4. Getting horrible crashes while playing: bsod's with memory parity errors, unexpected reboots, shutdowns, etc. Anyone else have the same problems with this game?
- Machine came with AOL, Earthlink software. I cannot see them in Add/Rem Programs. Is there a clean method to get rid of it?

PS. OS is Vista Home Premium, I am not very excited about it, thing is really bloated.

lenovo is aware of T61p owners having issues with gaming/3D and are working on a solution.   the most recent thread covering it is here: any games that work with T61p/570m???

2. Possibly.
4. Perform "Custom Restore", instructions can be found in the following thread:

how can I remove Thinkpad software?.

The real question will be is Lenovo persistently working on the solution or are they just saying they are working on it, but putting the issue on hold.

I have looked at the thread. This would overwrite my current setup, correct?

Hi Erik, what was the test result you got if you ran HD Tune? Mine never break 50mb/s (average) but I have seen plenty break 50mb/s average... Is HD Tune an accurate test?

i just ran HDTune 2.54 on my 200GB hitachi 7K200 and the results were as follows:
minimum transfer rate: 16.4 MB/sec
maximum transfer rate: 64.2 MB/sec
average transfer rate: 50.8 MB/sec
access time: 14.9 ms
burst rate: 76.1 MB/sec
CPU usage: 3.1%

HDTune seems quite accurate.   those numbers look good to me. :thumbs-UP:

Gradas, I had problems with games crashing whether I was running in Vista or XP. The problems only started occurring after I add 1GB of RAM with the 1GB already there. After I removed one module, it worked fine.

I ended up wiping my system again and adding a 2GB to the 1GB. System is running smooth now. I've played through CoD twice (at native resolution) and it never crashed. I'm running Windows XP.
