Strange external monitor problem

I hooked up an external monitor to my T60 today ( set it up to use both the laptop's LCD and the new monitor), and every once and a while, whatever is on the laptop LCD "flashes" on the external monitor, not long enough to really read it or do anything (it is probably visible for around 250ms). I have seen both windows explorer windows and winamp do this. I don't know at the moment whether this same phenomenon occurs in reverse. I want to chalk it up to another amazingly high quality driver package from ATI ( :( ), but still I would like to know of there is a solution...

System details:
T60
Win XP Pro SP2
ATI x1400 (driver package is one release behind since the latest breaks even more things)
1400x1050 LCD
1600x1200 External monitor

This is especially frustrating since the reason I made this setup is because my desktop is undergoing stress testing to diagnose a crash.... so first one, then the other :(

Thanks for your help.

Seach this forum for the term "flicker" and you'll get lots of hits on this problem. It's been since the first T60 and IBM/Lenovo has yet to fix it.

The best workaround is to suspend your system (Fn+F4, then wake up by holding down the Fn key). After you do this, the problem should go away until you reboot.

The only other solution (that I know of) is to revert back to BIOS version 1.09, but that's not an option if you're running Vista.

Thanks, I searched, but I guess I did not use the correct phrasing. I don't use the second video head very often, so it is not a significant problem, I was just hoping it was not indicative of something else being wrong.
