external monitor doesn't work

#1 Post by skok » Mon Nov 19, 2007 1:37 pm

Hello :)

I have problem with external monitor in my T60 (with X1400). I have been using external monitor in my home (in "extending the desktop" mode) for a long time. But yesterday, when I came back home and connected monitor's cable to my notebook, it didn't work. I have been trying to check if it is the monitor or cable problem (and I found out: it's not). Then I tried to plug other monitor to my computer, the same problem... I see only "NO VIDEO INPUT" on external monitor. What's this ? I think it is a damaged video card, isn't it ? :(

TIA!

Try going into your BIOS (Hold F1 on boot) and set the Display settings to both internal+VGA (or DVI, whichever you use). Reboot. You should see the boot screen mirrored on your external display. If you don't, then you may have a broken video controller. If you see the boot screen, then the problem is probably elsewhere.

it's set : VGA+LCD and I've tried many other options: no results :(

Interesting is that: when I was booting Ubuntu Live-CD for a while I have seen deformed graphics on external monitor (the same that on the internal LCD), but only for a while...

If it's a broken video card: how long ca. would take them to repair it ?

I have no idea what the repair time is in Poland. In the states, it's about a week turn-around time when you send it in (but there are no guarantees).

It is written that I have to send to the service: notebook with warranty card and the bill. Could I send them a copy of the bill ?
