T60 Adding Cheaper Memory

I'd like to add 2GB RAM, but would prefer not to pay the high cost for official Thinkpad memory.

Today, I ran across a discount memory dealer that's selling a 2GB MICRON PC2-5300 DDR2 SO-DIMMS (667MHz) 200PIN stick for only $52.

Has anyone had any trouble using memory from a different manufacturer in conjunction with the standard 1GB stick? Is there anything for me to be concerned about before purchasing the noted RAM?

You should have no problems - but it's still a good idea to use high quality memory.

I just installed 4 G of RAM on my t60. I got the G. Skill from newegg. Problem though is that my 64 OS only sees 3 G of RAM. And it also seems bios sees only 3 G of RAM.

Ron, the deal you pointed out is great, but Buy.com doesn't ship to the US Territories. So I think I'll go ahead and purchase the Micron stick and hope for the best.

Finally someone who has 4GB in a T60. Can you run a memory benchmark with one stick in versus two and confirm that it runs in dual-channel mode for us, please?

There are reasons to think it will, and reasons to think it won't, so we'd like a definitive answer.

I got the 4gb in my t60 from the buy.com transcend special. Id really like to run a benchmark from my "official" 2gb sticks cause my T60 feels slightly slower on the 4gb. I did run pc marks 05 and got 3911 on the 2gb configuration, but only 38xx on the 4gb. So, what is a good memory benchmark program you can recommend and ill post the results!

oh...haha... I remembered cpu-z. I downloaded and ran it, doesnt show much details on the ram modules themselves (I dunno if it is supposed to in the SPD tab), but in the memory tab it lists:

General
Type: ddr2, size: 3072mb, channels #: dual
Timings
DRAM Freq: 332.5mhz, FSB:DRAM 1:2, CAS#5.0, RAS to CAS 5 clocks, RAS precharge 5 clocks, cycle time 15 clocks, bank cycle time 21 clocks.

This is with (2) 2GB PC 5300 modules.

Micron is one of the suppliers for IBM/Lenovo. You should be fine.
