I tried to get USB audio out of my T60p. This is another one that I should have left alone. It doesn't work I get this message saying "Error Creating Direct Sound Buffer". This is apparently a common problem. Has anyone solved it?

Well I use a number of USB audio products with my T60p, and I have never seen that. From external speakers, a usb headset, to a usb phone, they simply work. I suggest you contact the maker of the USB device. I normally have the built in audio active and at least one external USB audio device active at the same time.

I think '2 Bricks Short' is asking about something like getting a USB TV Tuner audio to pass thru to the speakers using the built in SoundMAX audio card .... see this thread:

If you have been able to do that, please share .... thanks.

I listen to TV from a HP Dual TV Tuner USB box, and play the audio from that box either through a Microsoft USB headset, the builtin SoundMAX card, or through a set of USB speakers. It has never been an issue for me. The HP Dual TV Tuner audio is routed to the SoundMAX card and Skype is simultaneously routed to a Microsoft USB Headset. Allowing me to talk on Skype while watching TV/Cable. I wanted more volume than the SoundMAX can provide so now I normally route the Audio to a set of USB speakers. That allows me to hear it better with the Microsoft Headset on.

How many output cables does the HP Dual Tuner provide? My ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 only has one single USB cable that is supposed to connect to one of my T61 USB 2.0 ports. What TV software are you using and can you also record the shows? Also the T60 uses a different SoundMax chip and different drivers that may not be crippled.

There is just one cable between the HP Dual Tuner and the T60p. I am using Windows Media Center, that is required for the HP Dual Tuner The original question that I responded to was about a T60p. Nor was it specific to a USB TV tuner. It just happens that I do. I have used USB audio devices with my T60p under Windows XP, Windows Media Center 2005, and Windows Vista Business and Ultimate.

It sounds like those of us using only WinXP SP2 are doomed unless they uncripple the SoundMAX's stereo mix recording ability (like on my trusty older T42 with an older SoundMAX)
