Dock and external monitor. Can't switch from DVI to VGA. T60

#1 Post by amy55407 » Wed Nov 21, 2007 10:51 am

I recently purchased a Samsung 215TW monitor and an advanced mini dock. I got the dock primarily for the DVI output but I don't think there's much difference between the VGA and DVI and I'd like to be able to compare them. I should be able to change the video source on the monitor. However, when I select analog, the external monitor just goes black and the monitor goes into power save mode. I can't seem to get analog at all anymore actually, at least not when the computer is on the dock.
I tried shutting down and restarting without the DVI cable plugged in and the monitor remained dark. I've tried both the VGA connection on the laptop and on the dock.

Is there perhaps some setting I'm missing? I've checked on an LCD forum also but they wondered if it was the laptop.

Thanks for any ideas.

Well, the laptop cannot output to DVI and VGA and the internal LCD at the same time. If it's current display mode is set to LCD+DVI, then you won't get VGA.

Try creating a Presentation Director scheme that has both VGA and DVI and not the internal LCD.

Other ways to control video output are the Catalyst Control Center (assuming you have ATI graphics), and the BIOS Display settings.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
