How do I turn off Microphone and select other Audio input?
How do I turn off Microphone and select other Audio input?
This is frustrating .... I can't seem to find the microphone control to mute the internal mic on my T61 with WinXP SP2. It is using a SoundMAX Integrated HD Digital Audio device and offers no other device selection. The SoundMAX help section says to go to the SoundMAX control panel and enable AudioESP settings to tweak things and allow the SoundMAX to auto detect other line inputs but there is no AudioESP selection to try on my SoundMAX control panel. The SoundMAX is using the latest AnalogDevices 5410 driver found on the Lenovo website.
For instance, while using Windows Movie Maker to capture video, the audio input selection is gray and only my voice through the T61's internal mic is captured along with the Video. I'm trying to find a way to capture the video's audio and not my mic, but can't figure out where the the SoundMAX controls will let me choose alternate audio inputs.
My older T42 was easy in that I just double clicked the speaker icon in my tray and a mixer panel opened that had a mic volume slider and mute selection.
Any thought's or help would be appreciated ... Thanks

double click on the speaker icon so that the control mixer opens. now press under options in the menu properties, than select record and press ok. now the mixer for the input cames and you can mute the internal mic. which you always should have if you dont use....

I am not sure about your complete problem, but if I double click on the sound icon in the tray, click properties, and check the box by the microphone to show the slider, then the controls for the microphone are in the advanced control view.
oh well, two minutes slow.

Got the mute part of it .... thanks both to meditate2001 and specularius.specularius wrote:I am not sure about your complete problem, but if I double click on the sound icon in the tray, click properties, and check the box by the microphone to show the slider, then the controls for the microphone are in the advanced control view.

Now I need figure out why my SoundMAX control panel General Tab does not offer an option to enable AudioESP (to allow auto selection of different detected sound sources according to SoundMAX Help). My General tab only offers two items:
1. Show On Taskbar
2. Disable Digital Output
My SoundMax control panel's Microphone Tab has the setup wizard and three choices for microphone enhancements.
Does this agree with what you guys see on your SoundMAX control panel (Program Files > SoundMAX > Control Panel)?
Thanks again!

It sounds like the new Lenovo ThinkPad units can no longer be used to capture any audio from family home movies or to watch and listen to TV from an external USB TV tuner.
I am so glad I still have my IBM T42. By coincidence, I extended it's 3 year warranty out to 5 years just before it was to expire last week!
I wonder if Lenovo realizes that they crippled their new ThinkPads in this fashion? Otherwise, I love my new T61.
I wonder how this will affect future sales?

I think what you need to do is click on the recording tab in the SoundMax control panel icon, select or highlight the microphone, click on properties, then click on the advanced tab, and if I understood you correctly, you may see what you are looking for.eecon wrote:snipped

I'm still upset that this onboard SoundMAX sound card is factory crippled so as not to allow audio input from home video movies during capture or audio from TV tuners!

Please provide your TV Tuner make and model number so I can try one out. My ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 can not get the audio through and it's software also fails to install.meditate2001 wrote:you can watch tv with sound over an external usb tv tuner.
I'm also wondering if the only the US models have the SoundMAX card crippled at this point. Do you see a full array of sound mixer controls and sliders when you open the SoundMAX Contol Panel?

Oh, I see you are using a stick device .... I'll need to look into learning more about those devices. Sounds like you can connect it to cable TV and listen through your laptop speakers but can you record TV with that device also? We do have digital over the air for all the main network and local channels, but I do not have very good over the air reception down in the forrested canyon where I live.meditate2001 wrote:No no, relax, my one is also crippled, because i think soundmax just castrated them all![]()
