A T61 in a docking station is connected via DVI to an external monitor. When switching on the notebook only the thinkpad monitor is activated not the external, only later under windows (vista) I can switch manually to the external monitor.
I would appreciate sugestions!

If you go into bios you can change the boot diplay. (Config / Display). I believe it's set to VGA as standard.

andyP's suggestion is the only way I know to get the boot screen to show up on an external display. Sometimes the external display doesn't like to sync up to the 640x480 boot resolution.
Try this: When you see the first boot text show up on your internal display (and with your external monitor hooked up), try turning your external display off and on.

As promised, I had a play around. The set-up;
T61 8889-2BG (s. sig). BIOS vers. 1.21 ECC 1.06 attached to Mini-Dock with 17" TFT connected via DVI. (External display was always on)
Trial 1. With standard bios settings; Default Primary Video – “Intern”, Boot Display Device “Analog VGA”
The external screen displayed everything from boot splash through to desktop, the internal screen displayed only when desktop was reached.
Trial 2. With changed bios settings; Default Primary Video – “Internal”, Boot Display Device “Digital (DVI”.
Results were exactly the same as above.
@Zeitgeist I can only suggest that you maybe load bios defaults and give it another go.
