T60 2007-AD1 - freezes while on battery and changing loc....

I used to have this problem on XP where winxp would freeze up shortly after leaving power. I eventually attributed it mostly to the powering off of the eth card (deep sleep something) and I disabled it. Other times I thought it to be related to the Active Protection thing on the HDD. Well now I have been getting it again on RHEL 5. Events are as follows
1. Disconnection from power, walk to conf room
2. Work fine
3. Get up and move back to my desk or whatever
4. Sometime between step 2 (sitting still) and this step the system is frozen, no mouse, no keystrokes, no Ctrl-Alt-F2 for text tty.
Any ideas?
BTW - T60 2007-AD1 Gnome/XGl/Compiz Fusion/ Core Duo 2.17Ghz, 4 GB RAM (3 usable)
