If you go to Advanced Settings of your GPU, it will tell you the amount of memory that has been assigned from the RAM to your display adapter. It is termed as Shared System Memory.
You may note that this number can drastically increase during runtime of a graphic extensive program like a game or CAD tools since it is allocated by the system and whenever it would sense a need it will borrow it.
You can search on "Shared Memory Architecture" on google if you want to know how the internal registers address the need for such memory requirements.

Assuming you've Windows Vista installed, do this:
Right Click on your desktop > Personalize > Display Settings > Advanced Settings.
The Shared memory there will increase as you install more RAM, your system has an actual; dedicated Video memory of size 128MB and the rest allocated from the RAM. So, yes, the total available graphics memory on your system is 512MB (384MB = Shared, 128MB = Dedicated).
Right Click on your desktop > Personalize > Display Settings > Advanced Settings.
