Hi,
is there any chance that we see T61p with Intel Core 2 Duo X7900 since Lenovo has already made their TPs available with T7800 (which is actually X7800)?
I know, heat is a great problem in laptops, particuliarly in business-designed laptops, stil I think Lenovo could manage that step forward Any thoughts?

actually, the X7800 is based off of the T7800 and runs at 44W instead of 34W since heat and battery life are not the primary concerns on gaming notebooks.

with that said, the X7800/X7900 will physically fit in a T61p but the difference in wattage requirements and increase in heat output could possibly cause damage to the system planar or processor itself.   if these processors do become available in future T6x/p models then they could require upgraded system planars and fan systems.   at this point only lenovo knows what's coming next.

Thanks for your reply, erik. That´s very interesting because the only laptop I saw by now with T7800 is T61. Dell offers right the extreme versions X7800 and X7900 (in gaming notebooks). So, as you say X7ttt are designed for gaming purposes, I guess there is a very small chance to see them in a ThinkPad since TPs are supposed to serve to business purposes. That´s a pity because TPs are also beloved in science and it´s nice to have a mobile powerful computing unit Certainly, laptops cannot be compared with desktops or supercomputers at all, but stil... At least such laptops would be very very helpful, I think Maybe the only problem with "scientifical laptops" is the improvement of cpu productivity and by now this is only possible through increasing takt frequence or adding kernels, which results in more heat, and more heat just kills cpu productivity (at least from what I saw). So, the way out is not that simple...
