t60 15" palmrest query

#1 Post by sdjamie » Mon Dec 03, 2007 2:24 pm

Hi folks, I've just upgraded the ram in my 15" t60 and I want to confirm that I've got the darned palm rest back on correctly. Everything seems to have snapped into place and it feels solid, however the front edge/seam can be seen to gradually bow up by about a millimeter in the middle. I would expect that this is within manufacturing tolerances but it's possible I've missed a clip. Opinions?

Thanks

Stephan

Oops, sorry 1mm = 0.04"

Have you tried reseating it?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I did disassemble the whole thing and put it together again when I first noticed it. It all clicks into place convincingly and the screws go in easily - too many more times they'll come out easily too! I think it's okay, I was just hoping some other t60 15" owners could confirm that there's a bit of flex at the front lip, at the seam where palm rest meets the base.

I'm probably being a bit obsessive. In part it's because Thinkpads are so frighteningly expensive in the UK. Given the money it's not unreasonable to want everything to be just right.

Stephan,

I can push down slightly near the notch just in front of the ultranav. A very small amount which seems normal to me.

The part of the palmrest that I always have trouble with is at the left edge next to the Fn button. The palmrest always complains right there for me. In the instructions for palmrest replacement this particulay section by the Fn key is highlighted.

I would bring the front edge close and see if everything is straight.

Thanks for the comments. Sounds like my assembly is fine and I'm glad I'm not the only one to find the left top corner a hassle.
