No Sound on T60

#1 Post by DoubleOZero » Wed Dec 05, 2007 6:50 pm

Hey guys, first post here, hope I can milk some info out of you if you don't mind. :)

Laptop has no sound whatsoever. Ok, it breaks down thusly:

1) I'm on a DEADLINE. I have to find the magic fix within the next 15 hours or so.
2) Laptop is an IBM Thinkpad T60.
3) Fresh install of Windows XP Pro SP2.
4) Have Googled the crap out of this to discover lots of people have the same problem.
5) Installed this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-62855
6) Installed this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-64133 (note 888111).
7) Enabled System Sound in BIOS.
8) Enabled modem in BIOS (believe it or not this has supposedly fixed the problem for some folks).
9) Uninstalled and reinstalled driver again.

Still nothing...

I wish. I'm all for turning up volume and going home. :D

No, checked all audio volume settings and the hot keys -- nothing's set to mute, and volume's cranked up very high just in case my hearing sucks.

Also Device Manager checks out -- no conflicts or compatibility issues detected.

Which packages you installed? the links you mentioned will never work since the syntax is wrong, a url cannot contain that much number of dots.

Do you have the following package installed? You need it 1st before installing any other audio drivers from lenovo:

Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver (Q888111) for Windows XP with Service Pack 2

Secondly you would need the actual drivers:

Audio Features XI for Windows XP, 2000 - ThinkPad R60, R60e, T60, T60p, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t

Please be sure to check the explicit installation instructions after downloading.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Yes, tried both of those, twice over. Followed instructions to the letter. :) Still no luck. :(

/edit -- Figured out the problem -- Plugged in external speakers, those work fine. So chipset's good, driver's good, hardware's SHOT. Thank goodness for warranty. :)

Thanks everybody.
