Keyboard quality

Hi,

Just curious...

for those of you out there who recently bought thinkpads but used to own another brand, what do you think of the keyboard?

I've been typing on this t61 for almost a week. it's fine.

My wife recently got a dell D630. similar price range and features, size and shape (the dell is a tad heavier and just a wee bulkier if you measure closely... and i did).

Anyway, i played on that thing for 3 hours settings things up for my wife.

I like everything about my t61 more... except maybe the keyboard. the dell keyboard just feels better, more sturdy, quiet, etc.

Just thought it was funny that i like the dell keyboard more than the world famous thinkpad keyboard....

-cheers.

If Dell has improved their keyboard quality, then that's great news for everyone. I think the competition is always good.

Keyboard quality, particularly on the high-end of the segment, is largly subjective. One person may prefer quiet and soft, while another may prefer a lot of audible and tactile feedback. Key placement is also subjective -- certainly with the Ctrl, Alt and Fn keys.

I have a T61 and D630 as well. D630 is a company issued laptop while the T61p is my personal computer.

D630's keypad was not bad, it is quieter like cheapster says, but whether that is better or not, it is more of a personal opinion.

Of course, older Thinkpad's keyboard are the best but the quality has gone down (in my opinion) despite the effort of Yamato's lab to produce keyboard feel similar to that of the 600 series.
