Third party WiFi - no POST error, card not recognized

#1 Post by GUmeR » Tue Dec 11, 2007 2:48 am

Welcome

My laptop: T60 1953-EAU (bought without wifi card - empty slot)
Wireless: GIGABYTE GN-WI05GS 802.11b/g 54Mb/s (chipset unknown).

I am aware that plugging in an unauthorized card generates POST 1802, but... I don't have that error. Windows boots up normally.

Card is not detected under Windows (tried under XP and Vista). Not even as Unknown Device. Installing driver and utility does not help (tried few different versions of drivers and utility).

Card is enabled in BIOS, Radio kill-switch is off, Fn-F5 enables bluetooth. I didn't try Access Connections or IBM HotKey utility, there is no point in my opinion (am i wrong?).

Is it possible that this is some strange BIOS blocking behavior? Or maybe i am lacking some motherboard drivers for PCI-E slot?

I will be grateful for any suggestion.

What you describe is not a BIOS issue. Is the card plugged into the mPCI Express slot at the back of the machine or into the socket at the left side of the motherboard? If it is in the left slot, then move it to the center slot at the back, above the battery. If the card is good and the wireless switch is enabled, then you will have either and 1802 error or an indication from Windows that new hardware was found and that drivers are required.

The card is in the center slot. I don't even have left side socket in my model. There is plece on motherboard if you would like to solder it by yourself :?. I will check the card and slot in service.
