I don't have it installed on my T60p. Where did you see it? Which version?

The Utimaco SafeGuard PrivateDisk was part of CSS v5.43 in 2005 and I've never seen it since then. If the SGPD is preinstalled on your ThinkPad, you can only receive updates from Lenovo.

Well,
my Thinkpad T60 is produced 2007-02 and Utimaco Safeguard PrivateDisk is a part of CSS but there are no updates/reinstall rutines to get at Lenovos homepage and as a "notdirectcustumer" to Utimaco there are no support to get from them. Moment 22....?

There are many softwares, lenovo preloads on it's machines that are not retail versions. These are usually provided by 3rd party vendors that pay lenovo to bundle them (on the systems) under agreement, they're either oem/trial/corporate versions and can only be used with lenovo preloaded factory image and not on a clean install.

Utimaco Safeguard PrivateDisk was part of older versions of CSS, now the two are totally separate. If you need an update then contact Utimaco.

To reinstall, check C:\SWTOOLS\APPS, you might find an installer there.

Also look into the following thread:

Where did Umatico_SafeGuard_PrivateDisk go?.

Hi,
As was mentioned Umatico SafeGuard PrivateDisk can be used onely on lenovo systems - windows. So you can't acsesss your private data on other no lenovo systems.
I'm using TrueCrypt witch is "Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows Vista/XP/2000 and Linux"
You will have your privacy and access to your data everywhere
Best regards

The CSS v5.43 with SGPD couldn't even be installed on a T60p with XP. Said it could only be installed on an IBM machine..

If you need to access a file created by the old SGPD, you might want to try SGPD Portable. It seems you'll have to copy the file to a USB key or something.

It's a pity SGPD is no longer part of CSS. I really liked it. On the Utimaco site, there's a free file encryption solution called SafeGuard PrivateCrypto. However, the file format is different from the one created by SGPD. (The former is .uti or something and the latter is .vol)

This is a part of the answer I recieved from Lenovo/Utimaco

"1) SafeGuard Private Disk is hard to find. Yes. Is has been removed for some time, but it's back again.
When Client Security Solutions 8.0 first came out, they had removed SGPD. A couple of month ago, it was made availble for download again:"
