" The nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft. "
This seems to be occurring in and outside the Docking station. I tried reinstalling the driver and it still occurs.

It would be slightly more easier for others to help you if you mention your Operating System.
About your issue, if you're using Windows Vista then give a shot to the drivers from Microsoft, I read on nVidia forum that this has solved problems for many users.
I also read that certain third party softwares can be responsible for this problem.

Windows XP is the OS.
Any idea what type of third party software that might do this?

I'm using XP, but I have no problem. I actually downgraded from Vista to XP. I use a tweaked video driver so I can better play games.

You may find that when waking up from standby mode, the screen remain black. If that happens, simply turn up the brightness and it will be restored to its original state. I actually can play game quiet well with this driver.

Roxio Media Center, K-lite codecs, screensavers and mostly programs responsible for playing video.
Since I don't what programs you use on your machine so it's hard to pinpoint the root cause of this issue, I suggest you backup your data and perform a factory restore, if the problem still persists after that then it could be a hardware issue then.
