hi all,
i just recieved by T60 in the mail today. had a few questions
when i press down on the left hinge and release again, it clicks. Is that okay or should i call lenovo?
also, what's a good way to get rid of all the crapware?
also, what's a good sleeve for this? I'm considering getting a bigger battery, would that affect the sleeve choices?? Is it worth it to get a new battery??
Also, it came with XP home, anything i have to do before I put in my xp pro disc and upgrade on the existing partition, i.e. not a fresh install??
Thanks
PS is the gpu user replaceable??

Welcome to the Thinkpad forum. We are glad to have you here.
Make a set of recovery discs before doing anything else. They may come in handy someday. If you are going to go to XP pro copy the IBMTOOLS folder to an external device or a DVD. It contains all the drivers and utilities.
PS, the GPU is not replaceable.

You've two options for the hinge clicking:
1. You can take your machine to any local IBM authorized Service Center and replicate the problem there, a tech will apply some sort of fix for you:
Find a service provider.
Or call IBM Support Center at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)!, a tech will take an action to fix your problem depending your warranty type (OnSite Vs. Depot).
To remove so-called "crapware", perform a Custom Factory Restore:
I am copying this from one of my older posts:
ryengineer wrote:Optimize your machine by tunning it. You can start by removing the programs you are not going to use. I suggest you perform "Custom Factory Restore" that lets you choose your choice of programs from the "Lenovo Base Software Selector". Obviously you'll have to settle on which programs you need according to your requirement.
To do so:
a. Turn off your machine.
b. Power it up and carefully observe the display. Look for the logo screen. At any time, while the logo screen is onscreen, press Thinkvantage Blue Button or F11.
c. Once Rescue and Recovery Predesktop area fully initiates, you'll see many option on the top and left side of your screen.
d. Under "Rescue and Restore" press "Restore your system".
At some point you'll be presented with custom restore option.
Also you can refer to the following thread to read on the similar topic:

I think those folders you deleted are fine as long as you don't want them.
I would leave the SWSHARE, SWWORK, AND VALUEADD folders. I wouldn't touch the I386 folder.
My T60p does not click when I push down on it. Like it has been suggested call Lenovo for assistance there.
Happy ThinkPadding!
