thinking of upgrade ram (value ram vs. expensive ram)

Hello guys,
My local Frys usually has Corsair Value Ram 2gb single module for sale for $35. I'm tempted to buy 2, but don't know whether to spend the extra money for more expensive ram or not. From what I heard, value ram is not good for overclocking, but i don't plan on overclocking my laptop. Also, I heard that expensive ram only increases the performance of the system a little bit compared to value ram. IS that true, is there any reason to justify spending more for ram if the laptop is not used for gaming?
Thanks in advance :)

Not really, IMO.

I'm also of the opinion that "value" RAM will work just as well as "overclockable" RAM given that the system you put it in does NOT or can NOT adjust its memory timing. For desktop motherboards there's plenty of tweaking that you can do. I don't know if the later Thinkpads allows you that amount of control over the memory system. Assuming that they don't then it doesn't make sense (to me) to spend more money for RAM that is incrementally faster (by a couple of memory clock cycles) if you can't take advantage of it.

As long as you use memory from the well-known major manufacturers, a list that I've posted elsewhere here but briefly are: Micron, Samsung, Elpida, Infineon, then you should be fine. It can be a little confusing to know which memories are on what modules unless you are in the industry, but Google some part numbers off the individual memory packages and you can normally see who made them.
