Should I Get an Apple 30" Monitor?

I just bought a 15" T60p w/ Flexview on eBay and the guy sent me a mini-docking station. My wife wants to get me an Apple Cinema 30" display for Christmas. Will the limited resolution of 1600 x 1200 have any effect on the high resolution monitor when docked? Any advice for what to do?

Was $1500 for a 200793U w/ 18 mos of warranty and protection a good deal on this laptop?

I don't think the t60 supports the native resolution of the 30" screen. To drive the 30" screen, you will need dual dvi which only T61 has. I could be wrong..

the advanced mini dock and advanced dock both have dual-link DVI-D output. the ATI V5200 in your T60p supports 2560x1900. so, yes, the apple 30" is supported.

the only drawback with an apple display is that you won't have any on-screen display controls. to change brightness, contrast, etc. you'll have to use the ATI control panel. unless you're set on the apple for some reason, i'd recommend looking into the samsung, dell, or HP 30" instead.

In a word. Yes. We have almost the exact same model Thinkpad. I also have similar warranty left...lol

I have one of the 30" Dells, i got it from ebay (new) much cheaper than I could get an apple display and I believe they actually contain the same panel.

I speak as an Apple fan and a Dell hater generally but they are nice monitors and the colour scheme better matches the ThinkPad than the apple one would.

Both the Apple and the Dell use the EXACT same Samsung LCD panel inside.

Get whatever is cheaper. There is ZERO difference in quality in the panels.

The Dell 30" is S-IPS, so it does not use any Samsung panel, that's for sure (Samsung makes S-PVA, not S-IPS).

My bad. The point is still the same.

They use the EXACT same panel.

Not trying to hijack this thread but would anyone know what 24" monitors have an S-IPS panel?

I have a T61p system with three of the new Gateway 30" monitors. They have LOTS of inputs - much like the Dell 24" monitors that I love so much. They're the only 30" monitors I know of that have built-in scalers.

I'm still comparing picture quality...

I've found the answer to my question, the NEC Display Solutions LCD2490WUXi is about the least expensive 24" LCD with an S-IPS panel.
