played around with atitools, but seems I cannot get it to do anything? if I move the sliders, and I set immediate effect upon slider movement in the sttings, i dont see for example the FPS going up in the rotating cube. also, the fps of the cube does not slow down either when I set a very low closck speed of the 3d. if I set the also the middle-pair slider does not move beyond 475/700, and the right slider-pair is not adjustable at all. in short, how does atitool work?

don't use the first two pairs of sliders (2d & xx). just use the 3d. click on settings and set readust after setting sliders. start new clock. move 3d sliders, load. run

I did all that. it does nothing

i would like to replicate the result posted in the other forum of a 3dmark06 of about 5600.

I bet if you turn off your tpfc, you will get the same 3dmark06 score.

Try that for interest sake.

Without any level of overclocking, you are not pushing the GPU .... thus, you don't need higher fan speeds.

On ATITools, you have to play with it. Try to read the READ.TXT file that comes with it. But, only after I started playing with it did I get to understand how it worked.

No 3DMark06 score difference between:

Has anybody on the forum gotten higher 3DMark06 scores (keeping every thing else constant) by changing their driver?

No fan control. No Overclocking.

OK, I've fooled around with the latest TPFC (0.32 beta) and here's my settings (in fancontrol.ini):

Again, these settings are a little less silent than BIOS default or TPFC default smart mode, as I prefer my laptop cool than silent.

The most important thing is the MaxReadErrors=0. Without this, TPFC will close itself upon 10 temperature readind errors (default) as there are often reading conflicts with ATi Tool. Don't worry, it won't affect performance nor stability.

TPFC will not affect performance directly. So using TPFC without ATi Tool (or any other OCing program) is useless performance-wise.

Performance gain due to modded drivers are extremely small. That's what I experienced.

Alacrity: The smart mode should work. Modify your fancontrol.ini with my settings.

The only reason I use modded drivers are because they are the only ones I can overclock with. If anyone knows of any recent WHQL drivers that I can overclock with please tell me.

I began overclocking with the latest drivers from lenovo. It worked for me...

For some reason, I am still having a little difficulty getting consistent fan speeds. Finally with tpfc in manual mode, I got the fan to run at approx 4400 rpm.

I ran at 500/800 overclock and get a 4665 3dMark06 score.

But, above that overclock level, the PC freezes. So, the fan is running a little funny or < 4400rpm (is there a log that I can run and check the fan speed and gpu temp after a PC reboot?) or, my PC is actually running hotter than your PC?

Maybe Lenovo changed the fans on the latest PCs? Or, I have a bad fan? Or, I do not yet know how the tpfc/ATI Tool combo works (lol!)?

I am satisfied with my present video capability but really wanted to at least try the higher level oc/fps stuff.

Thanks for your inputs so far. I will try to find a clear set of PDF instructions of the tpfc somewhere. Or try to go thru that long tpfc thread.

The only funny thing is that the fan doesnt seem support the smart mode, but I really doubt it as the manual mode does work.

Now, something you must know... GPUs don't all have the same overclocking capabilities. You may have one that cannot be overclocked so well. But 500/800 is really not much higher than stock speed. Have you tried the "find max core/mem" option? What does it give you?

Hi,

It seems hit or miss to even get the fan to register 4400 rpms when I plug in 64 for manual. Most of the time, the fan does not increase above 3300. So, I think either the fan is off or I need lessons on tpfc.

But, I will try the max core temp / mem option and see what happens.

Last time I tried that....a week ago....it seemed to take forever just to ramp up on the 2D test....and so I went on to other things.

That's odd, I can't overclock with any WHQL driver. I tried ATI Tool, nTune, and RivaTuner, and I simply can't change clock speeds with WHQL drivers installed. Any non-WHQL driver seems to work. I'm assuming you are using the 156.66 driver from Lenovo? I tried that one too and it didn't work.

I don't know what version of the drivers it was. I guess it was the latest version as my T61p is now something like 3 weeks old.

Have you tried all version of TPFC? I have some trouble with 0.32 beta. The program icon does not show at startup.
You should begin with the find max core/mem option. Maybe you are just not lucky at all. The V3200 I had in my T43p was highly overclockable. The V5200 of my T60p sucked at it. And now my FX570M is blessing...

Many many thanks! With your help, I am now overclocking!

Used 0.30 tpfc. Used your settings including the Errors=0.

Used ATI Tools to find the max core temp and the max mem.

Then backed off a bit.

Set ATI overclock to 600/760.

Set tpfc in smart mode.

Ran 3DMark06. Score = 5079

Then ran my old time favorite HL2 DeathMatch and had the smoothest play, highest fps, highest texture ever.

Ran with 169.04 as driver.

I owe you one.

I'm thinking about changing my FX570M driver (currently from Vista update) to laptopvideo2go. I'd like to know if there are any problems connected to this change. But especially I'd like to know how Nvidia control panel looks. So if someone could post image of this control panel tabs I would appreciate this.

A couple of days ago I installed Forceware v. 169.28 with the modified .inf both obtained from laptopvideo2go. I was using the latest Lenovo driver before that.

I doubt these numbers are very meaningful but my desktop graphics score for aero in Windows Experience Index went from 4.2 to 4.3 and I don't recall what the gaming graphics score was before but it is 5.3 now. Since installing that driver, I have experienced a couple of instances of graphics instability each lasting about a second and then recovering by itself. Don't recall what I was doing when that happened.

However, it seems I can run some games at somewhat higher settings than before. The nVidia control panel has more options than before. For one, the digital vibrance slider is enabled, but haven't played with it much yet. If I don't experience any serious problems, I'll probably keep using this driver and updated versions as they are released.

It is very simple to load a new driver.

...set up a folder on your desktop
...put the laptopvideo2go driver and INF in the folder
...go to control panel and remove nvidia driver
...reboot
...go to folder and add new driver
...reboot

Then, Play video games.

If you are not satisfied, you can easily reverse the driver.

A safer way to do it:

Go to Programs & Features, uninstall nVidia drivers, reboot
Use Driver Sweeper to wipe out any remains, reboot into SAFE MODE
Install new drivers (Safe mode is so that antivirus doesn't interfere), reboot

And by the way, what are "nVidia Drivers" (listed in poll)? Is there a way to get FX570M drivers straight from nVidia?

Where can I download tpfancontrol 0.32? Can you please give me a link?
Also, my GPU seems to idle at 60C, according to RivaTuner. Is this normal? What tool do you guys use to monitor CPU temperatures?
