T60, slow startup: Checking the status of the embedded...

I recently got a T60 and I have noticed starting up is very slow.

Much of the time, sometimes more than 30 seconds, is spent in status:

"Checking the status of the embedded security chip"

Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my security chip?

Can it be speeded up somehow without disabling the security chip?

Grateful for any comments.

Sounds normal. Client Security Solution is known for slowing down startup. You may consider uninstalling it if you're not going to use it.

thanks for the quick reply.

Is it correct that uninstalling would mean I can't use the fingerprint login mechanism anymore?

instead of uninstalling you can disable security chip at thinkvantage. there is probably a lot more applications that slow down your start up so try disabling them (this includes google, norton trial, automatic back up, private disk, client security solution, etc...).
i believe you can disable security chip and still use fingerprint software. i don't use either so i might be wrong there.

No, Biometric chip (FPR) is not part of Security chip, you'll still be able to use it.
