What are the normal operating temps for T61p

#1 Post by pae77 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 6:11 pm

I was wondering if my T61p is running hot because the fan seems to be on most of the time.

Below are some temps reported by PC Wizard during just browsing this site and having a few programs like Outlook and Quicken open. I was wondering if this seems normal?

Voltage CPU : 1.23 V
Processor Temperature (Core 1) : 54 °C
Processor Temperature (Core 2) : 54 °C
ACPI Thermal Zone : 33 °C
:
GPU Temperature : 56 °C
GPU Fan : 100%
:
Hard Disk Monitoring : S.M.A.R.T
Hard Disk Temperature Hitachi HTS722020K9SA00 : 41 °C

EDIT: Stupid me, I had forgotten to change the power manager setting from "Maximum performance" to something lower, like "Balanced." So that I guess that would affect the readings somewhat. After a few minutes of being on the balanced setting the fan is still running and the numbers reported by PC Wizard are:

Voltage CPU : 1.23 V
Processor Temperature : 48 °C
Processor Temperature (Core 1) : 50 °C
Processor Temperature (Core 2) : 49 °C
ACPI Thermal Zone : 48 °C
:
GPU Temperature : 54 °C
GPU Fan : 100%
:
Hard Disk Monitoring : S.M.A.R.T
Hard Disk Temperature Hitachi HTS722020K9SA00 : 41 °C

Those temps seem perfectly normal. The T61P fan runs all the time unless you use a utility to turn it off (a genuinely bad idea IMHO). That includes Linux and Windows. Even at 3000rpm I can barely hear it. Surely that noise does not bother you ...

Thanks, that's good to hear. I was getting a little concerned about the fan being constantly on. Fortunately, it is a pretty quiet fan most of the time and no, it doesn't really bother me, but it would be nice if it was totally silent. But I guess that's the price one must pay to have all that CPU and GPU power.
