Are you trying to install XP x64 on X32 or T60?

X32 has pentium M based cpus which don't support x64.

T60 with Core Duo (Yonah) cpu does not support x64.

I believe the OP was using x32 to reference the 32bit architecture Vista (as the 64 bit version is referenced as x64).

Earlier versions of the T60 shipped with a 32bit-only Core Duo CPU. Later T60s shipped with the Core 2 Duo (C2D). Only the C2D-equipped T60s will support Vista 64bit.

That makes sense now, OP currently has Windows XP x86.
