Does Your T61p Screen Wobble?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone notice that the screen on their 15.4" t61p wobbles just a bit (front-to-back) if you push on it? I mean, can you feel the screen moving without the hinges catching? For me, if I pick the laptop up while open and hold it at a sharp angle, the screen tips just a bit. I can tip it back or forth, but it stops once the hinges catch. There's maybe about a half-inch of play. Do other people notice this?

How old's the laptop and how has it been handled up to this point?

The laptop brake hinges are under tremendous torque stresses when the LCD lid is opened/closed and if the lid is opened/closed forcefully out of habit, said hinges will develop play before they get around to failing completely.

I have a 14.1 T60 that does this also.

Hi, I open and close the laptop very gently. I've only had it for about 2 months. The play seems to be minimal, and I don't notice it unless I look for it.

I was just curious if this happened to other t61p owners as well.

i baby my T61p and it developed a bit of play in the lid after a few months of use.   now when open the lid it can move fore/aft about 5mm.   it's the first thinkpad i've owned in the last 13 years to do this.

I have had my labmate compalain of the same issue with this WS T61 ... my 15" 4:3 T60 does not have this problem even after 1.5 years ... I wonder if this is an issue mostly with WS models (though Carbon_unit mentions trouble with his 14" T60).

Half an inch of play?? Seriously that's a lot. On mine (system in sig) there's about 2mm at most and I had to keep my other hand on the base of the laptop to keep it still while testing for wobble. Its very stiff too - have to use both hands normally to open or close the lid (one hand on lid and other on the palmrest for leverage)
