Hello,
Looking to replace the hard drive on my T60 (2613EJU) with the following:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822146230
Just wondering if this is compatible, and if there is anything that makes replacing a T60 hard drive more difficult than any other thinkpad?
Thanks,
T0E

I think thats a PATA drive and I belive your T60 uses SATA, could be wrong though.
There is also word that the bios blocks non-ibm/lenovo hard drives.

This one is cheaper and far better with its 16 meg cache:

Also, same model/size came stock on my T61p. Used it about a week before upgrading to 200 GB version of same drive. They are fast and quiet.

That's ATA, you need Serial ATA.

I have successfully upgraded my T60p factory stock HDD to a OEM Seagate Momentus HDD without any problems. (and also upgraded at least 5 of my clients T60's & T60p's again without any problems too).
However, I know that the T43's gave an error code of 2010 if the HDD was replaced / upgraded with a non-standard stock IBM / Lenovo item.

I used some general seagates (3 of them in various capacities) on my T60; no bios error (I think the T43 was the only one that used the list). In any event, just make sure you get a SATA notebook drive, (most are all 9.5mm standard), the performance specs you want, and just swap them in! Its easy with just one screw to take out.

i'm wondering if i can also use this thread to answer a question i have
i'm interested in swapping my t60p harddrive with a newer, faster one
would this work?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822145180
it's a Serial ATA150
also, i'm wondering if it would get too hot for a laptop. i'm not worried about it burning my lap, but more about would it affect the structural integrity/function/performance of my thinkpad over time having a 7200 rpm drive
thanks

This appears very similar to what I have installed in my T60. So far it's very quiet, fast, and I'm not detecting any significant heat issues. I used one for years in a prior Dell laptop with no issues. I think you're good to go...

7200rpm HDD's have been installed/used by IBM/Lenovo in the T60 series since virtually from the beginning of their introduction - hence I do not think that they would affect your T60p.
I have currently a 120GB 7200rpm Seagate OEM which I changed over from my noisy Hitachi 100GB 7200rpm - It's been working a-ok and is VERY VERY QUIET. (The Hitachi 100GB is now used in a pocket external USB enclosure/caddy)
Here's the
link for your reference of the Hitachi HDD you
intend to purchase - I also did a quick check on operating temperature ratings across the Hitachi Travelstar range, according to their datasheets they all
approx the same.
I hope this helps
