T61 14.1 - Parity Error, Contact Your Hardware Vendor

#1 Post by zdsharpe » Thu Dec 27, 2007 8:39 am

Hello all,

I know there have been a number of posts about this issue, but as they all seem to relate to the T60P, I have begun a new topic.

My T61 (detailed specs below) runs well as long as I don't try to do any gaming. So far I have tried playing Half Life 2 and Civilization IV on my machine. Both games will play for 2 to 5 minutes before I get the blue screen of death which says there is a parity error and tells me to contact my hardware vendor. This happens every time I try to play these games, and at no other time whatsoever.

After having read through some posts on this forum, I have tried a number of fixes. I have done a complete reinstallation of Vista twice and attempted to play the games with various drivers. No luck. I have also tried removing one DIMM of RAM and playing with just a single DIMM. Also no luck. I still get the blue screen of death without fail about five minutes into a game.

I have also run PC-Doctor 5 which did not return any errors.

I know some people have managed to get this problem fixed at the Depot with their similar Lenovo models and I wanted to know if anyone could explain exactly how they got Lenovo to identify the problem and fix it. I have sent emails to a customer service rep (thanks Hellbore for the address) but have gotten no response. While my machine is still covered by a limited warranty (I bought it 6 months ago), I am not in the country all that often and I don't want to have to send it in more than once. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the detailed specs on my machine:

T61 14.1 WXGA
Dual Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0 Ghz
2 x 1 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140 M
Intel Wireless 4965 AGN
Windows Vista Business Edition - 32 Bit
BIOS Version 1.26

Hmmm . . I think thats all you should need.

Thanks to anyone who stops to help . . .

There's at least two threads here already about this along with a couple at NBR and one in Lenovo's forum. We don't need another one. See http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47755 and http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/messa ... read.id=55 and http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179172 for three of them.

Locking duplicate thread.

this affects the T61p, not the T60p.

for clarification, the only difference between the 'p' models and non-'p' models is only the GPU and display options.   otherwise the system planars are identical when comparing similar chassis sizes.

if you're having the same issues with your T61 then it rightfully falls under the same topics that have already been created.   therefore we don't need yet another similar thread created.

thanks for understanding.
