I was wondering if anybody could try that?

LCD screen from latest MacBook Pro have LED backlight, plus MVA technology is better than TFT (still worse than IPS)

I could have done it myself, I have 15.4 T61p, but no MacBook LCD panel available

beware macbook pro LCD's suffer from a horrible "grainy" quality. i'll take TN panels over that.

why not transplant a T60 flexview?

Why not transplant? - because 15.4" is a widescreen (so as macbook pro), while Flexview is 15" (4:3)

Where does the information come from ? I don't believe it. There is no display manufacturer offering anything else but horrible TN panels for notebooks (except tablets). Do you have any reference to the panel model ?

It depends. IPS "FlexView" panels in ThinkPads were 6 bit only anyway so there was no color accuracy after all. Current A-MVA or S-PVA panels are very good and having better contrast ratio than S-IPS (except H-IPS which is extremly expensive). I'd say that MVA/PVA would be the best compromise for notebooks. Still, all of them are far better than TN.

As the displays are for laptops and can come from Samsung, you can be absolutely sure that these are TN panels. MVA is also rather expensive, and only found in larger LCDs these days.

You'd probably find that banding on the flexviews is not there to the extend of what some macbook owners have complained about - even though both are 6 bits. Color accuracy is actually very good, but contrast should be higher (especially with the red colors)

Apple puts MVA panels in their MacBook Pro laptop, I don't remeber where I read the review, but the response about picture quality was rather good.

According to #9 in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=184492, there are four possible combinations:

The LG can only be the LP154WP2, since this is the only one manufactured with a LED backlight and at 15.4".

It is a TN panel.

The Samsung can only be LTN154BT, since they have no other LED backlit displays available. This cannot be MVA, since Samsungs high horse/own invention is S-PVA. They also solely use TN for notebook panels, which makes me believe it is TN (especially since it is still 6 bit).

The CMO panel can only be WN154C6, but is clearly stated as TN:

The AU panel can only be B154PW04 V0 which is also clearly stated as TN:

But as to the original question - i don't think it is possible to fit it into a T61p, or any 15.4 thinkpad for that matter - without redesigning the power supply to the backlight. That would require the pinout of the ribbon cable LCD connector, which isn't available. Regardless of it being IPS/TN/MVA whatever, i think it would be a nice mod though

I don't think so, because the resolution would be reduced to 1440x900.

Hmm good point. Illogical why the manufacturers decided that WXGA+ must be it for LED backlit displays, when more normal resolutions like WXGA, WSXGA+ also exists.
