Hot swap problem of 2nd Hard Drive in Ultrabay Slim on T60

#1 Post by milstein » Mon Dec 31, 2007 2:00 pm

I pressed Fn + F9 and select to eject the HDD inserted into the slim bay. But I always get the error message "The device cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later"

Can someone who succeeded fixing a hot-swapping issue in T60 tell me how to fix that?

By the way, Happy New Year!

do you have something opeed from that HDD, cuz that happens if you dont close everything from that HDD and try to eject it. FOLDERS counts too.

Indexing can be a culprit. Uncheck the indexing choice in that drive's properties.

I also found that if the drive has a HDD password done out of the ThinkPad Bios setup hot swapping does not work, because the machine will wait for a password. That requires a cold start after inserting the ultra bay drive.

I did not have any folder opened nor did I set any password on that Ultrabay hard drive in BIOS
The symptom is: if I have the ultrabay hard drive during booting up, I cannot hot-swap it; but if I have it plugged in after getting into windows, I can hot swap it

I leave the ultrabay hdd in my t60 all the time (from cold boot too), and have absolutely no problems hot swapping, unless, as mentioned above, I happen to have a folder or file open that uses the second hdd.

xp pro, indexing is enabled, oem factory install with basic cad/math/office programs, no programs I can think of that use the secondary hdd, and no pagefiles.
