I have a new T60 machine that has been in service for a few months now. All of a sudden R&R started to do a back up of the hard drive on its own. This is weird and I want to turn this feature off, but don't know how to. We do our own bakcups and don't want R&R to do this, especially if it is going to cause errors (as it did) and stop users from working effeciently.

Anyone know how to turn this off?

You just open R&R and under the option that allows you to schedule backups, select "never."

I went through the R&R from the thinkvantage button upon bootup. I didn't see any where for a scheduled backup section, or an option to select "never." Any insight on where I can find this? Maybe some step by step instrcutions? We don't typically keep this feature on the laptops, but this laptop was slipped through the cracks. We are running Rescue and Recovery 3.

Rescue and Recovery has two layers.

1. Rescue and Recovery Predesktop Environment (which is accessible from the recovery partition during boot) is used to put machine to out of the box factory state and other diagnostic purposes.

2. The one in Windows is the one that is used to perform backups, to delete a backup, do this:

Start > All Programs > Rescue and Recovery > Set schedule and preferences > uncheck Schedule your backups.

I have RnR 3.01.0037.00 installed - this method worked for me - Ok here goes:

Start > All programs > ThinkVantage > Rescue & Recovery - When the Rescue & Recovery screen opens click Set schedule and preferences under Manage backups - Then Un-tick Schedule your backups.

Why not just uninstall it?

Thanks for all the steps. I was clearly in the wrong area. I will follow these and hopefully I can find it now.

As for uninstalling it, at this point, might have been easier. When I started looking at it, I thought just telling it not to do a backup would have been the easiest route to follow.

Uninstalling it will probably eventually happen, now that we figured out how to ghost the T6x series properly and without failure.

Don't forget to delete the RR backups directory off the root. You may have to boot safe mode to get rid of it.

Wow, it turns out that this was an old post, EXACTLY 5 years to be precise. Which was pointed out to me, with one of these attached to it .

indicated that this is STILL an issue for some folks making the earlier thread relevant, because in order to stop this one not only has to uninstall R&R but they have the ERASE the hidden system directory, which can usually only be done via a safe mode boot.

I must have missed something on my machines, because I'm STILL getting (useless) old restore points created that tune up utilities finds and deletes for me. So I have more digging to do, when i get the time. I may have to shut off system restore points, if I can figure out how.

So if I'm a bad boy for necromancing an (exactly) 5 year thread, then get a 7,000 mile long wet noodle to thrash me with. But you have to get line, because i have an army of colonels killin' me right now (and a bunch of GOs causing this place to spin out worse than a tasmanian devil on steroids!)!!!.
