Hi

I just added 2 GB to the 1 GB that came with my new T61.

An observations/questions:

When I booted it up the first time after the change I expected that
there would be some sort of BIOS message that it had detected more
RAM, but actually, now that I think about it, I never get any sort of
BIOS messages during the boot process (I think .. I haven't rebooted
the system yet that often

Should I have seen a message from the system that it detected a new
memory size?

The system recognized the new memory though, so I guess it's ok.

I also adjusted the page file size to be the 4596 (as recommended by
the system) and made the initial size == max size. Does that seem
like a reasonable setting? (I have the 7200rpm 100GB drive)

ps: So far I am thrilled with this system.

I've heard in Windows the page file minimum and maximum size should be the same, but with 3gb of memory I doubt it needs to be that big

good point .. I wonder what amount most people with this sort of RAM (3 GB) set aside.

I don't use swap and my T 42p 1,5 Gb runs faster

Having some sort of swap or page file is always a good thing, but with my Thinkpad I have 2GB of memory(will be going up to 4 soon ) and will bring my swap partition down from 2gb to 512 or something around there.

Microsoft thinks it's good practice to have your pagefile 150% x the amount of RAM you have. So if you have 2GB you should have a 3GB pagefile. I don't do that tho, once i have more than 1GB of RAM (who doesn't these days?) i drop my pagefile to 256min - 512MB max. I keep a pagefile for errors generated by the system. They are dumped there when something happens. I have 2GB of RAM now.
