bios locking my RAM out??

#1 Post by charredii » Fri Jan 04, 2008 11:30 pm

I just bought a 2gb stick of pqi (read: cheap) RAM to add to my T60 running xp which had 1gb before.

In windows, system properties says my computer has 3.0 gb and in Process Explorer's System Information it says I have 3,000,000 Kb availible, yet I never see memory usage above 1.2gb (which would be the original 1gb plus windows pagefile.sys or something like that, am i right?)

is this a problem with lenovo as evil business to lock out cheap ram?? Thanks

Try opening up something in The Gimp that's rather large, or using vmware to use some memory, or opening 4000 tabs in firefox. Normal usage won't push much memory.

absolutely not.   if your BIOS and system properties both say that you have 3GB then there's no reason for you to think lenovo is blocking your memory.   the problem is that you just aren't using very much of that 3GB for whatever you're doing.

i have 4GB in my T61p (with BIOS 2.07) and utilize up to 3.25~3.75GB almost every day and haven't had any issues whatsoever.
