My dad has some old audio cassettes. I want to convert these into mp3s. How can I record stereo sound into t61p? Is the mic jack mono only? If so, is there a work around? I am currently running ubuntu OS and audacity recording software. Also have the vista, however I doubt it allowing recordings, given its DRM issues.

What happens to good old times, when 600E had mic (mono) and line-in (stereo) in the same plug ...

How about an ExpressCard or even an old sk00l PC Card audio in/out solution?
Speaking of which, something like the
Creative Labs ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme sound card.

I've got the same problem, I forgot to check & didn't realize nayone was OMITTING line in jacks these days.
The USB audio adapter is a good way to go, but you can also find tape decks and turntables these days, that plug directly into the USB port and pipe the audio in from a decent quality player, no questions about the connections or setup or jacks and wires. A bit more expensive but probably will come with all the software you need as well.
