Widescreen resolution on projector with 4:3 Thinkpad T60p?

Hi,

I have a thinkpad T60p with traditional screen resolution and I have now encountered the following problem and half a solution, but looking for a better one.

I recently acquired an Optoma 70HD projector with 720p native resolution. It seems that the lenovo "Projection Manager" does not offer any widescreen resolutions AT ALL in the menu dialogue. The people in the Lenovo helpdesk didn't know anything useful either and tried to refer me to their costly service.

Also the XP screen "properties" dialogue does not allow me to activate a widescreen resolution for the second screen (aka projector). The 720p is visible on the resolution slider but it won't get activated.

Now I have found the following work-around. The FireGL 5200 is clearly capable of widescreen resolutions and when I choose the option "extend my windows desktop on this monitor" in the screen properties menu then 1) I can click on widescreen resolutions, but 2) it also now gets activated. So now I can drag and drop the movie in the 'extension' and watch it there in crisp and clean widescreen on my projector.

Question: Is there a decent projection manager upgrade that allows we to directly choose 720p without this work-around. Or are there any other suggestion to help the thinkpad laptop to understand that it is widescreen projector capable? Any prior postings on that topic that I might have missed?

I'm sure there are a few 4:3 Thinkpad users with 720p projectors out there! Calling on you!

Thanks!

This is one of the most common problems that people run into. I think it depends mostly on the video driver installed. On both my Thinkpads, the Presentation Director allows me to select virtually any existing resolution for the secondary monitor/projector, and virtually any resolution for the Thinkpad LCD (limited by the maximum resolution).

which video card do you have and what is your driver version?
