Lenovo says that my T60 has a hard drive firmware uppgrade available. I'm more than a little concerned about loading it. What do you all think? Anybody done it?

I did it with no problem. You can aslo go to the hitachi site and get some tools for your hard drive to change some of the advance settings.

What for? You're having problems with your hard drive?

Well... No, but one suspects/hopes that if an "upgrade" is offered, there's probably a good reason. On the one hand, I don't like the idea that I'm messing with the hd, but, on the other hand, I don't like the idea that there is something about the hd that requires improvement. Makes for a bit of mixed feelings.

Years ago a hard drive firmware update was about "migration" of grease from the bearing. The update changed the head motion algorithm to help with that, making the drive bearing last longer.

Drive firmware engineers know what they are doing, and I always update my hard drive firmware when there's an update... with a fully charged battery, a backup in place, and never during a storm. :)
