T61 Lockup

#1 Post by Domain » Wed Jan 09, 2008 2:50 pm

Just got it out of the box. :(

I tried to install Office 07, and after it beings to install, the system beings to hang and become unresponsive. The HD Activity light goes solid, the system cannot control alt delete, and a few minuttes after finally will do a complete lockup to even where the mouse will not move.

I tried to install the bundled Norton Internet Security and had the same issue.

Any ideas? I disabled Diskeeper and the system speed up enormously, thinkingg it was causing issues, but apparentely not.

Domain,

It could be almost anything.

Maybe your PC was pulling down the latest microsoft update (occurred yesterday) or maybe your PC was going thru a major defrag.

I actually love Diskeeper...does a great job....but does initially work to keep your PC defragged.

Try to go thru some PC house keeping.....then see if it improves. It should be ok. Look at your task manager, applications, and processes while you ramp up....to see what is happening.

It's concerning, becuase I've never seen Vista ever lockup to the point where it couldn't CTRL ALT DEL and even lose the mouse. Right now I am leaning toward a hardware failure. Especially out of the box! I thought it grabbed all the updates it needed to catch up on, but it's always a possibility.

I'll do a little housekeeping and keep everyone posted.

I'm going to have Lenovo send me a new HD or something, I keep putting it under load and it locks.
