How do i use t61p as a monitor for another computer.

How do i use my t61p as a monitor for another computer. Is this even possible and if so....how?

I'm in thailand and I bought a nice IBM Netvista for 2500 THB :D I don't have a monitor for it and my computer to TV connection failed on me. Trying to get remote desktop on this windows working so I can set it up as my file server for my nomadic web design business.

Love you guys if you can give me any help or else I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow to set this up ... and that pains me because I have a whole bottle of Meekong whiskey i just cracked and I got like 6 redbulls :D I'm prepped to geek ALL NIGHT :D

As far as I know, I don't think it's possible, without additional hardware. You would have to get a usb video capture device and plug the tv-out of your video card (assuming it has one) into it. Then you'd be able to see the video output of your desktop in a window on your t60.

If you are running XP, it is possible with software. There is a thread somewhere in the T4x forum which explains what you need to do it...... the discussion was pre the release of Vista, so I don't know if you can do with Vista

I think you need to have XP pro on the machine that is being controlled. Also - you need to enable it on the host machine - tough to do without a monitor. Again - I don't know about vista either.

XP Pro on my t61p. Some crazy thai pirated version of XP on the NetVista machine. Comments are encouraging. I'm going to try and find that t4x thread.

Keep the info coming.

BTW. I have a VGA to VGA cable which i hooked up to my "external monitor" port on my t61p and on the "external monitor" port on the NetVista. I think i should have mentioned this in the original post.

If i need to install something on the desktop computer first, this is no good to me....as I don't currently (nor will i have) a monitor for it.

The only reason I need this to work, is so i can get remote desktop to work from my laptop. I know how to do that.

I got it working on a TV I have here, but it's like when you were a kid and trying to watch porn on Pay Per View with out paying. I can't make up the lame "You turned off windows improperly last time" NetVista boot menu's. Working on it....we'll see.

VGA -> VGA cord from Desktop to my Laptop solution would still kill it...any ideas people?

I just got it to work with another TV i had lying in this hotel. Inside remote desktop right now. BOOCHE.

Still looking for a VGA to VGA solution if something like that exists.

Your VGA-to-VGA solution will not work because each VGA port is a "unidirectional output" port. You cannot connect two output ports together. You would need the laptop's one to behave as an input port, which you can't...

You will need to stick with the TV (or use one of the other solutions proposed here).
