Was Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Pre-Installed on your T60/61?
Was Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Pre-Installed on your T60/61?
Either WinXP or Vista.
Two - T61p 15.4" WS T9300 2.5Ghz units, August 2008 08/08 Builds + Nvidia FX570M GPUs, One - T42 15" Flexview 1.8GHz + ATI GPU for travel, Two - T500 15.4" T9600 & T9400 CPUs with ATI HD3650 GPUs, One - Stupidly Fast W520 15.6" i7-2860QM + Nvidia 2000M GPU + Series 3 Dock w/USB 3.0
Thanks .... My T61 WinXP came with SQL Server 2005 preinstalled and it must be the free express version based on the high pricing of the other versions and the EULA file in the installed directory is for the Express version.sugo wrote:No for vista T61 here.
I don't see any reason MS SQL Server 2005 (non-express) would be pre-installed. That's a server software that costs as much as a laptop.
I custom configured my unit through a university purchasing program and did not order any MS Office Suite or other software preinstalled, however there was a demo of Office 2007 installed and maybe that needed SQL to properly function.
My control panel>add/remove programs lists it only as "Microsoft SQL Server 2005" with a size of 179.0 MB. There are also four other Microsoft SQL Server programs listeded right below that:
SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ)
SQL Server Native Client
SQL Server Setup Support Files (English)
SQL Server VSS Writer
My SQL Service Configuration Manager is v2005.090.3042.00 and my SQL Service Service Manager (from the tray icon) is v8.00.2039 with polling set to 5 seconds by default.
I wonder if I can safely unistall all five of the SQL related programs listed in control panel>add/remove programs? I've stopped the SQL Server Manager from the the tray icon and had no ill effects so far. I don't develop or write programs and only use my laptop as a stand-alone non-networked unit for email, browsing, word processing and excel spreadsheets (I installed Office 2003 Pro).
However, the unit does not seem to bog down when I enable the SQL Manager .... it runs very fast either way so maybe leaving SQL Server 2005 installed (as delivered) won't hurt me for now?
Thanks for the help

O.T. ...... But Gee Whiz .... I wonder if anyone has even tried Business Contacts Manager? .... My Office 2003 Pro Suite also has it, but like about 60% of the other office suite stuff, I don't think I need it ..... just Word, Outlook 2003 and Excel (plus opening the occassional Access or Powerpoint file that some of my fellow wage-slaves send me).rk62 wrote:That's exactly what it is...I THINK if you uninstall the Business Contact Manager component, it'll remove SQL Express, but there may be a separate installation routine in Add/Remove programs for it as well, can't remember.
