Lenovo Vs IBM laptop?

Do you guys fell that Lenovo laptop does not have the same quality as IBM laptop? Since I did not own any IBM so I can't compare. I just found a few cosmetic flaws with T61 and
my touchpad left click is wobble.

Nope.

Call IBM Support Center at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7!), they'll overnight you a replacement. Lenovo pays for all shipping costs including return, you may note that you would be required to send the faulty part back to lenovo, all the return labels would be included with your replacement. Just schedule a pickup with the mentioned courier and you'll be all done.

I have a cracked palmrest and requested a replacement from Lenovo. Instead, they sent me a box to return my laptop in.

This was back in December and I have yet to send my laptop back as I haven't been able afford three days without it.

have read there. Granted nothing is 100% but that's just my general observations. There are cases where the older ones are better than newer ones i'm sure.

Indeed. IBM much better quality when it comes to anything, not just the palmrest.

That's what I'm afraid of. But then since I don't put much of my work in this laptop, now is a good time to do it.

LOL! I almost ordered at T60p but the one I looked at only has Intel core processor not core 2.

Bear in mind that even in the best of worlds, laptops sometimes get lost in shipping, misdelivered, damaged. If you are shipping the whole computer and the hard drive (and functionality) are not issues, you might want to remove the hard drive and keep it at home instead of shipping it.

And these days, buying an external USB drive and backing the whole thing up, in any case.

not necessarily true, although I dont have a lenovo to compare. my IBM T41p had a crack in palmrest after 3-4 yrs of use. I had extended warranty, so got it replaced.

you guys are making me worried, i ordered a t61 to replace my t41. the only reason i went with a thinkpad was because of the good track record and my experience with my t41....

With all the thinkpads I've seen, quality has risen since lenovo took over.

I've had several T40-T42 in my hands the past few months, and I've had my T60 about a year. I've also had ThinkPads since 1993, and my T60 is every bit as good as the other 'pads.

I'd say it's as good as my 600X or 7xx series, and better than any 3xx and just slightly better (more rigid) than the T42s I've worked on.

I just got a new T61p and had many ThinkPads over the years. Before my new one.. the best one I had was the IBM ThinkPad A31p, to me there is no difference in quality when they were IBM or now Lenovo. This T61p is one quality dream machine.

to me all mmachines have decreased drastically in quality since lenovo took over!

issues are less regidity, more plastic, higher pixel error quotes in addition to a changed pixel policy in the last years.

over here we say : it looks more and more like an "Ü-Ei" from Kinderschokolade.

Guys if i tell you that lenovo was a computer factory in China Years ago.
They was assemblin computer for IBM before to buy the products and license.
When IBM stoped the EMEA production in UK, they gave the manufacture to lenovo.
1997, so more than 10 years ago...
Since 1997 your thinkpads are Lenovo !

Then a last thing the beautifuls t60 and t61 are 100per cent Lenovo product.

Well, I can only speak from my own personal case. I just ordered and received my T61. I recall the older models T42/T43 had the soft touch rubber coating on the inside (wrist rest) but that is not the case anymore.

I think lenovo makes tweaks here and there to cut cost. They have to in a cut throat market for laptop sales. The keyboard is still a quality tactile one, but other than that... I've notice the little things

1) there's a slight bulge in the pastic between the power buttuon and the volumne buttons.

2) if you press down by the lower right corner (by the hard drive) you'll feel the play and creaking

3) there's a bit of play (not a tight fit) on the left side of the lcd panel enclosure, if you squeeze the lid with your thumb and index you'll see it comes together and if you let go you'll see it give out a tiny bit.

4) the LCD panel just plain sucks... it's not bright or contrasty at all. Why can't they go for new technology (ie. LED backlit display) I don't know... probably cost.

But it works. If you want perfect quality... might have to get a macbook pro or the new macbook air.

I've owned a T21, replaced by a T52. My current machine, a T60, is the best of the three in terms of construction quality and usability.

Since it seems sometimes like the only time people come out to voice their opinion(s) on something it is because they have a negative experience to share, I thought I would chip in my two bits:

My T60p meets or exceeds my former T42p in build quality and engineering in all areas. So far I have not seen any reason to believe that the switch to Lenovo has had a negative impact on the brand or the product.

In fact, if anything, I've rather enjoyed the 'new' Lenovo corporate culture, from the customer perspective end of things...it seems more 'open' and personal (I mean, the new Lenovo blogs, the return of 'official' forums, the increase in marketing, etc.) while IBM, as great as they were/are at support and engineering themselves, I don't think would be caught dead doing some of the things that Lenovo is doing publicly these days. IBM has an extremely, hmm, "corporate" reputation at stake that they would want to protect since that is where they house their own identity.

Lenovo had an extremely hard task ahead of them, given the rock-solid nature of the IBM brand. I think they have approached the challenge and met it head-on. They are well on their way to succeeding at becoming known within the collective international consciousness as a premium PC brand, perhaps one every bit as good as the old IBM PC division. I think they have tackled the task the correct way, too, by making sure that their marketing ENFORCES the point that they have the BEST engineers, the BEST facilities, and that this results in the BEST engineered PCs.

I have to roll my eyes every time I see these threads because as wel all know, nearly 100% of the previous engineers and other employees are from the old IBM PC division that Lenovo purchased in whole, and support itself is still being contracted out to and is being handled by IBM (let's hope they keep it that way!!).
