T61 - DVD playback

I have a new T61, NVS140 graphics, 2GB memory, 1440x990 screen. Play back of DVD movie via winDVD is dreadful - jerky, audio not synced. Graphics driver is latest according to Lenovo site. Previous Thinkpad was a T41 (unfortunately burgled) that played DVD perfectly well with ATI graphics and the new machine is far more powerful.
Is this a common problem or do I have to change settings for movies?

is this a common thing these days? Check the device managers setting on the controller. See if DMA is checked. For some reason a few people had it unchecked or somehting.

I had that problem out of the box and after an upgrade to the video driver, the DVD playback was fixed.

Could you tell me where you got the new video driver. According to the Lenovo website, mine is up to date.

nvidia.com and mod them with laptop2go.com's modder.
