Replacement board - T60p (X1300 v V5250)
Replacement board - T60p (X1300 v V5250)
OK, so I had the infamous screen flickering problem when I was using dual monitors. I have sent my laptop to depot and they replaced the system board with one that contains an ATI X1300 video (512MB) versus the ATI FireGL V5250 (256MB). Don't ask how this happened... I have no idea.
What I will say is that the new board replacement does address the flickering issue, BUT the incorrect video adapter is on the board. I have called and asked for them to ship me another box, but I was just curious if I should just keep the X1300 or insist on getting my V5250 back?
Is the ATI X1300 w/512MB superior to the ATI FireGL V5250 w/256MB?
Thanks for the input.

The ATI X1400 has 128MB dedicated video RAM, but will use some of the system memory (at lower performance?) when needed.
The X1400 is in no way superior to the V5250, other than perhaps working or just being available.
I would certainly insist on some compensation if a replacement is not available, like a battery or something.

So, it's actually the X1300, not X1400. Make any difference in your comments?whizkid wrote:The ATI X1400 has 128MB dedicated video RAM, but will use some of the system memory (at lower performance?) when needed.

Performance: ATI FireGL V5250 >> ATI X1400 > ATI X1300.
The dedicated video RAM come with the upper chips are 256mb, 128mb and 64mb respectively. The 512MB video ram you saw with X1300 is hypermemory, not dedicated video RAM. You really should insist on getting your V5250 back.

i would too but if you don't need the power and they'd offer some upgraded part like a DVDRW if you don't have one or extra battery or something as compensation i'd go that route instead. You paid for the more powerful system which is the T60p but you basically have a T60 now, cheapest one at that
So the difference could have been $600 between them.

Thank you, very much, for the replies. They are sending me a box, tomorrow, and asked that I put my invoice into the box so I can basically prove my system had the V5250 in it.
They'll replace it with the correct one, but this is a little rediculous that they didn't know which system board I had, previously.

What if he asked for a V5200 instead? I'm not familiar with this flicker problem, but does it only exist on the V5250? A V5200 isn't much of a downgrade, and my understanding is that it has other benefits as well (dual-link DVI output from the dock connector, for example).
Not sure what else is different between the two mainboards other than the video chipset, especially given that the latest revision of the V5200 boards support the C2D processor.

If they replaced your T61p board with a T60 board without your permission, you are ripped off by Lenovo. If I were you, I would immediately call them and ask for compensation. Maybe you can get a T61p from them as a replacement, who knows.
T60 (2007-66U): upgraded to C2D T7400, 2GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (sold).
T61 (8891-CTO): C2D T7300, 4GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, Nvidia Quadro FX 570M (128MB).

I have sent off the laptop, again, with the receipt proving that I HAD the V5250. Also, according to what I saw online when the tech was having me look through some hardware, I don't know that the 5250 exists any longer... looks like it is the 5200 that will be the replacement.
Also, what is the ATI M66-256? The tech was mentioning this to me when we were looking over the system board numbers.
Here is where I am looking for these replacement parts:

Thanks, so this is what the tech was saying... mine is the M66-P. I just want my laptop back, fixed! At least I know that the "flicker" can be fixed when the graphics adapter is changed. That's good to know.Troels wrote:M66 = Radeon Mobility X1700 / Fire GL v5250
