Hi,
I have just purchased an MTRON mobi 32G ssd and wanted to share impressions with you.
Astonishing !!!
I don't recognize my T61p.
It is fast as ever : hdtune 2.54 :
average transfer rate : 90.4 M/s
Average time : 0.1ms
My vista index :
processor : 5.3
Memory : 4.8
Aero : 5.9
Games : 5.5
HDD : 5.9
time to boot from the time I press the switch on button : 14s
Everything is [censored] fast once booted
My config in signature.
For the ones who want to improve performance, I think that it's worth the bucket more than an upgrade with penryl.
bye

Thanks for sharing.
I believe that if SSD is affordable, most people would already jump the bandwagon by now. The Mtron you talked about is $700, no where near affordable. Its power consumption is 2.8 W, roughly equivalent to 7K200 , so aside from performance, there is no battery benefit.

You're right Sophomore, I have tested on battery today, compared to only 7k200, the only gain is about 20 additional minutes.
My concern was performance, not having extended battery.
The price sucks but the change is nothing to compare with.
For instance, I had previously 2 7k200 and could not make raid on account of the chipset which is ICH8M (not R or so).
Bye bye raid, so I decided to invest on the Mtron stuff and don't regret at all.
The only drawback is even after the price goes down in the future, unfortunatly there will be no change of having raid either with HDD or SSD on account of the chipset which is too limited.

2.8watts? really? That's really high compared to what i've read:
Power Draw Idle / Load
.15W / .55W
http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=3067
the SSD i have definitely draws less power for sure. When i used it power draw drops down at least 2 watts.
So where did you see that? I guess the fact that it's 90MB/s vs 60MB/s while using the same power is definitely a plus. The fact that it's $700 is not a good thing tho but if it was cheaper then definitely.
the prices of MTRON are about to change end of february

Prices of MTRON are about to change at end of february according to ssdisk.eu Europe but I don't know to what extent.
And according to the same source, MTRON will no longer sell 16Gb SSD models.
I myself could not wait until then even if my wallet is

No, I am not mistaken. Here is the source:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/21/ ... page3.html
I read many other forums and many users have confirmed this number. I will post the link once I remember.
I am afraid it is either a typo on anandtech website or we are talking about 2 different models.

8GB would be enough for me. NAS for the rest.
I'm trying to get CF (compact flash) to work, if ever get a setup I like, will post it.
On the high power consumption--maybe there's a little "computer" inside, running some sophisticated/optimized RAID?

well what's the normal battery life do you get? The T61P does suck a lot of power cuz of the GPU and that CPU too is definitely a power munger and if you have the WUXGA screen then even more so.. That's a 9 cell tho or a 7 cell?
My T60 gives me like 3hr 20min with a 6 cell. I haven't tested it 100% yet but i got at least 2 1/2hrs with the estimate time saying 1 1/2hrs remaining (35% left). I was at Panera Bread for free wifi and this girl with a Toshiba was sitting beside me.

I was there just talking to her and surfing and using webcam on Windows Live with my peeps too. Her system died but she was there for about 20mins before me but even after she left i stayed a extra 30mins and had plenty of juice left.
