T61 CDRW/DVD Combo Drive Question

#1 Post by rubbish84 » Wed Jan 16, 2008 8:51 pm

I have recently decided to use the Windows XP downgrade CD's that I ordered from Lenovo and while using them to do a complete product recovery, I noticed that at high CD speeds on some of the disks the drive was making a lot of vibration noise. If I put my finger against the drive the noise decreased but was still present.
Is this something that is normal for the drive at high speeds, or is this something I should make a warranty claim to have rectified?
Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems like the images are copied to the disks at higher burning speed, sounds normal if that's the case.

In any case, you're always free to get in touch with IBM support center to negotiate a replacement under warranty.

With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."

Sounds like the vibrating CD is slightly out-of-balance. At the drive's 24X maximum CD read speed, the CD can spin up to 12,000 RPM which is plenty fast for the spinning disc of polycarbonate plastic that is the CD to send out some bad vibes.
