New T60 and screen upgrade.

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Wed Jan 16, 2008 10:45 pm

I recently acquired a T60 and did a complete system restore with XP. The only problem I have is that it comes with an XGA resolution screen and its hurting my eyes! I originally got this for my girl but she was not too interested and wanted to get a colorful Dell

Anyways I want to change the XGA screen, what are my options?
Is the only upgrade option the 14.1 SXGA? If so what else is needed to get everything to work? I believe I would need an SXGA LCD interver and the LCD ofcourse, but what else?

Thanks :)

you just need the SXGA+ LCD and the LCD cable and nerves of steel :)

I dont have to change the inverter?

And why do I need to change the cable isn't there already one connecting the LCD now?

XGA cables only use 1 channel (or whatever the technical term is) the SXGA+ and UXGA ones require 2 because of the amount of data they have to send to the screen.

The inverter is part of the LCD assembly so you don't ever have to touch that... (as far as i remember, someone correct me if i'm wrong)

Oh and by the way, that girlfriend of yours.. she doesn't deserve you... send her to me instead. LOL Actually my girl did the samething too. She has a Dell Inspiron 6000. It's a decent system but it's huge too... falling apart now and of-course has no warranty left to fix it. She wont get a Thinkpad now tho cuz whenever she see's IBM or Lenovo or anyone with a Thinkpad she thinks of me... and that's a lot! LOL.

Well here goes one... apparently you gotta choose em with or without bluetooth too?

Ebay.com link

(the one above saays SXGA+ or XGA so maybe i'm wrong about needing a new cable)
