T60p: Problem with Shift key

#1 Post by chetan » Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:44 am

Hi all
The right shift key stays pressed sometimes at random. What are the options for a user without warranty?
I have planned to open it up over coming weekend to do some cleaning (Indian conditions can be dusty) I have looked at the repair manual PDF from the lenov/IBM site. Just looking for beyond-the-books ideas.
I have not checked what make the keyboard is.
TIA

There really is no way to get inside of a keyboard to repair it, but if you carefully remove the offending keytop and clean the area gently with a 50/50 solution of water and isopropyl alcohol on a Qtip it might free up the key. Use this solution sparingly, you really don't want to get the area more than damp, not wet. Just be careful around the rubber cone on the PCB. If you knock it off you are done. Make sure the keyboard is completely dry before you put power to it.
