T60 with 15" 1024x768 screen?

I just got back to setting up my new T61 with a WXGA screen, and I'm in the process of trying to decide whether to keep it, or go back to a 15" 1024x768 screen. My old ThinkPad A31 has a 15" 1024x768 screen, and I find that size and resolution perfect. I'm not a fan of widescreen, and no matter how much time I spend trying to adjust the different options I still find this resolution inferior and much more tiring to my eyes.

If I decide to shop for a T60 with a 15" 1024x768 screen, what model numbers should I look for in order to get the most recent mobo/processor? I like everything about my T61 except the screen resolution.

Please don't attempt to talk me into a different resolution, every discussion I start on the topic results in people trying to convince me to believe them, and not my tired, strained eyes. I don't like higher resolution screens. Thanks.

I am currently trying to get a T61p with a 4x3 aspect ratio screen, and also with 1024x768 (although I don't know for sure), so I respect where you are coming from.

My T41 is limited to 1024x768 (which is just dandy), whereas my NetVista Desktop can go much higher with its NEC LCD monitor. But I keep the Desktop at 1024x768 for the same reasons as you.

If my vendor comes up with a model for me, I will post it here. I am not in a huge hurry, so someone else may have model numbers for you before me. ... JDH

deb, these are all the 15" XGA T60s i could find in my tbook archive (in order of MTM number):

2623-DTU
2623-DAU
2623-D9U
2007-5CU
2007-59U <-- newly added to the list
2007-57U
2007-56U
1953-DAU
1953-D7U
1951-58U
1951-52U
1951-3DU
1951-37U
1951-35U

of those the first three are the newest of the bunch and probably the highest spec'd.   go to ibm.com and search for each respective MTM number to compare.

edit: added one more to the list

the 4:3 T60p was only offered with 14.1" SXGA+, 15" SXGA+, and 15" UXGA panels.   you'll have to choose from the list of non-p models above to get 15" XGA.

Thanks for your help, everyone. My middle goddaughter will probably get the T61 as a graduation (from grad school) present. If anyone wants to know what I find out, please let me know here and I'll share.

user "Thinkpad" is selling his new Thinkpad T60 XGA model for $600. Might be worth checking it out.

You can always get a higher resolution screen and up the DPI until you feel comfortable.

As far as new (i.e. unused) units are concerned, I think you are right. But it should still be fairly easy to find something on eBay.

according to tabook.pdf #311 it has a 15" XGA panel.

If you don't mind the R series, they're selling a new one here with a 15" XGA screen at the outlet store:

Thanks for your help, everyone. I don't know if I'd want an R-series, I was hoping to go lighter than my A-31. And paying $300 more for a discontinued T60 with half the HD and RAM than the new T61 I just bought isn't going to happen either - I'd rather get a used one on eBay.

I know exactly how you feel. I've tried every trick in the book to make it work for me, and I just end up with eye strain, a headache and web sites that are wacky.

*sigh* Yeah. I love the 15.1" 1024x768 screens, nothing comes close for comfort over the long haul. I stare at my screen all day long, just a few hours with the new T61 did me in.

I think you are going to discover that this is not a Lenovo-specific problem - evidently, 4:3 15" screens are going away. Many people are upset at the move to widescreen only, but for the panel makers, video/tv is the primary moneymaker, and drives the market for size/ resolutions. Wish I were one of your godchildren...
