Wireless problm after sleep

#1 Post by Oaklodge » Fri Jan 18, 2008 11:07 pm

Not sure if this should be posted in Vista forum. I have a couple of machine running on a T60p with Vista and all the latest fixes (NOT SP1 RC).

When my laptop resumes from a sleep very often the wirless connection does not work. The only way to get it working is to restart my wireless router (Linksys). Vista says it can not find any wirless networ, yet other computers can connect without any problems.

Any ideas please ?

MOD EDIT: Moved from X6x series forum to T6x.

Try this:

My Computer > Right Click Properties > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click Properties on the network > Power Management > uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

That did not make any difference .... it seems it's something to do with WEP, if I disable it then the laptop seems to connect after sleep without any problems.

I have the same problem on my T61 and X61t since a few days now. Both run Vista Ultimate.

Since I never had this problem before I suspect it has something to do with a recent update. I didn't have the time to do an extended investigation but for now I am just hoping that it will go away the same way it appeared. Currently rebooting seems to be the only surefire solution but that is not something anyone wants.

Wireless Connection Lost after Wakeup or Undock

#6 Post by Onzo » Mon Jan 21, 2008 10:45 am

I have the same behavior with my T60P running Windows XP. I lose the wireless connection when I undock or when the laptop wakes from standby. Ipconfig reports "Media Disconnected" for the wireless adaptor. I have the Atheros PCI Express wirless adapter.

And I tried to check the power management setting under Device Manager that the ryengineer suggested, but that option is only for the ethernet adapter, not the wireless one.

Any help would be appreciated!

FWIW disabling the power saving setting in the wireless 3945ABG device properties fixed the wireless disconnection until the next reboot issues I was having on my new T60 running WinXP Pro when it was set to sleep or hibernate.

Strangely it wasn't until the newest wireless driver (v11.05.0.APIc) and the wireless WAN activation patch (v1.0) were downloaded and installed a couple days ago via System Update that things got a bit funky until the wireless power saving setting was manually changed. Prior to that wireless automagic reconnection after both sleep and hibernate worked flawlessly...just like they do now.
