Having sifted through tons of posts and suggestions, I am stuck with the 'error 1802' problem on my Thinkpad R61i which runs on BIOS 7OETB8WW (8932-GNG) trying to fit a Gigabyte GTGN-WI01GT miniPCI-Express WLAN card.
Could someone please provide me with a modded BIOS?
Thanks very much in advance!

You guys are the best, thank you!
I was scared for all of a minute when on boot up I got the 0191 error, but after further searching I found out I just had to enter the BIOS and hit F10.
Both the mini5300 half height and the Atheros work without the dreaded 1802 error at boot!

Hi all. I just fitted an official IBM part (Centrino Ultimate-N 6300) in my T400s, and get the 1802 error. Could someone please help with a bios that whitelists that?

Helo!
I got T500 2056-VL1 CTO which got bios update 2010/08/24 to version 3.15 (6FETnnWW). According to Lenovo embedded controler version is still 1.06.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70353
Thats my first Lenovo, so please excuse me if my question is a bit naive
There is modded 3.11 (7VETnnWW) bios which (according to Lenovo) also contains ECP 1.06 so I came to idea to use FL files from 3.11 with rest of the stuff from 3.15.
If I uderstand correctly one of FL files (FL1/FL2) is ECP which is patched and since version is the same, should be OK.
Please enlighten me
Another way is following metsfan's receipe on page 34 to cook own bios.
Thanks,
b.
PS: if I flash with 3.11 and later with 3.15, is ECP flashed at all? I assume there is no need since it's the same version
Edit: after second reading I saw my mistake -- patched 3.11 version has ECP 1.05 so no easy replace

Found the bios, thanks. But even though my Centrino 6300 works fine now, it seems that was never the problem - but that's an issue for another thread, another forum....

Hello, I've written to our hero Zender about the 1804 error on my Lenovo but I'm afraid we may overload him with requestes so I'd like to know if someone can share the pain!
Is there a solution for that error caused by a Gobi2000 not Lenovo and a X201 Tablet?
Is there anything I can do to help anybody in helping me?
Tks a lot,
Ataru

Harryc, thanks for your reply...which makes me very sad anyway!!!
So, before throwing away my just purchased Gobi2000 I've last question...
1) Any suggestion on how can I destroy my x201t experimenting on its bios so to make it accept the Gobi?
2) Is it possilble to work on the Gobi2000 firmware so to make its PCI-ID looks like a Lenovo one?
Tks,
Ataru

Is there any chance to get Thinkpad T500/W500 bios updated? The last modified one available at Zender's page is 3.11/3.10 while there are already 3.15/3.17 released by Lenovo with some nice fixes.

I'd be also very grateful if someone could provide me modded BIOS to T400.
And one question: as far as I understand, modded BIOS allow me to install any WWAN and WLAN? Although I readed most of the topic I can see some request with description, what someone want to install, I'm confused... Just in case: I'd like to install Atheros wifi on my machine.
Thank you guys for such a grate job. I'm really impressed.

metsfan wrote:I got impatient waiting for Zender to reply to my PM (only a few hours, I'm very impatient) so I worked it out on my own. I haven't seen clear step by step instructions anywhere, so I figured I'd post some. This is for previous generation (*60, *61, X300) BIOSes. Also, I can't be sure if I disabled the whitelist altogether, or just added my card to the list, but it works for me now.
Edit: It looks like I need to use fp.exe instead of prepare.exe. I'm still unable to patch the FLh file with the FFV files it generates though.
Edit 2: I've done some searching and the new BIOS structure is a pain to work with. I'm just going to spend the $33 and buy a working Intel 5300 to replace the dead one. Then I won't have to worry about using an old BIOS just to support my 4965AGN. I guess it's worth that much to get rid of the display artifacts the newer BIOSes fix.
I'm still not able to this work. I used phnxsplit.exe instead of phnxdeco-experimental.exe since the latter didn't work. I patched BIOSCODE06.rom, edited one of the Intel device entries until the compressed modules were the same size, and then:
Code: Select all
C:\Users\name\Desktop\BIOS>phnxmod.exe $01B8300.FLh BIOSOLD.MOD BIOSNEW.MOD
PhnxMod 0.1 2008-02-19
(c) Ender
Okay, all files open.
ROM size 800000h, old module 88C9h+1Bh, new module 88C9h+1Bh.
Loading data...Old module (without header) not found in the ROM file. Quitting.
Ugh. Same place I got stuck last time I tried this. Any ideas?
Commands leading up to this:
Code: Select all
cd blerg
phcomp.exe /d $01B8300.FL1
phnxsplit.exe $01B8300.FLh
<delete FL1, FLh, cygwin dll and *.exe since their presence breaks phnxpatch>
cd ..
phnxpatch.exe patches blerg > blah.txt
<copy BIOSCODE06.rom.patched, BIOSCODE06.rom up one dir, rename BIOSNEW.rom, BIOSOLD.rom>
prepare.exe original.scr
prepare.exe patched.scr

For all of y'all who keep asking for a modified X201 or T410 or newer T500 or other newer machine BIOS, I have one question: CAN YA FREAKIN READ??
Harryc already listed all of the machines that Zender has graciously provided
free programming for, and your newer X series, etc. ain't been done yet, the Zender dude is rather overwhelmed! - he is
volunteering his time and resources, let's not test his patience and lose the goose that laid the golden egg!
I recommend that if the free programming around here ain't happening fast enough for ya, that you
take matters into your own hands and start disassembling/analyzing/rewriting some X201/T410/T500 code!
quit bellyaching and
do something constructive.

Hi,
thanks for this thread and all the hard work!
Could you please help me out with a bios for the R61i (without iee1394) machine type 7650?
Maybe another BIOS, one for the R61 would be compatible too I don't know.
Thank you very much!

Hi,
I'm trying to reverse engineer the BIOS of x201 like was shown on the web page and i managed to get to the first
location of the WLAN check by search for 0x2C01 and 0x2E01 and i have patch the code by changing the set carry instruction to clear carry.
I have problems with understanding how to find the second place that check the whitelist. can anyone explain me
how can i find the second check of the whitelist and what do i need to patch ?
Thanks,
LaBBa.
